Blankos Block Party’s launch on Epic Store came with some controversy

Blankos Block Party, a kind of Roblox-like discovery video game fueled by Web3 and cryptocurrency, was released today on Epic Store. Epic Games, best known for developing Fortnite, is one of the most well-known video game online markets. Blankos Block Party, previously released on Mythical Games’ webpage in 2020, now serves as the store’s first Web3 video game.

The production company revealed plans to release the video game on Epic Games Store. It was, nevertheless, fighting with Gala Games’ Grit to be the initial Web3 video game on that store.

Blankos Block Party’s game mechanics enable players to interact and cooperate in a beautiful world. The video game, influenced by Vinyl doll culture, employs NFTs to portray items such as jewelry and alter ego styles. These goods can be bought and sold in the video game market.

Several creatives and brand names, like Burberry, Atari, and Deadmau5, have endorsed the video game. Whereas NFTs are a crucial component of the video game, they aren’t required to participate. Even as Blankos Block Party has more than a million customers, Epic Games has more than 194 million.

Its Web3 video game method competes with Valve’s Steam in assisting new titles to gain maximum exposure. Valve previously stated that it would prohibit designers from publishing video games using virtual currencies and NFT.

Epic Games’ Chairman and President, Tim Sweeney, quickly responded to the official statement. Sweeney asserted that, even as Epic Games doesn’t plan to use NFTs through its processes, it isn’t going to prevent other initiatives from doing so. The only requirement is that they strictly adhere to all laws and industry guidelines.

To that end, Epic Games released a copy of Blankos Block Party similar to the web page version. The game is in open beta, with the complete edition set to release on the 28th of September.

Minor criticism from the general public

Blankos appears to be an enjoyable and enchanting multiplayer play area. Still, the general public sees it as just another instance of a strongly negative video game pattern, one from which the previously bullish Ubisoft had already recently separated itself. As per WorthPlaying, Blankos development company Mythical Games asserted one million gamer profiles by December last year, but its presence on YouTube or Twitch appears to be relatively small, with only 41 concurrent watchers on the second platform.
