Vatican City announces plans for NFTs and the metaverse

Non-fungible tokens (NFTs) have become increasingly popular over the past year. NFTs are currently being used across different industries, including music, fashion, art, finance, etc. The growing adoption of NFTs can be attributed to increased buzzed surrounding crypto assets and their role in boosting engagements.

NFTs have now found their way into the Vatican City. The Vatican plans to use NFTs to release digital exhibitions that will be dominated by NFTs, marking yet another iconic move in the NFT space.

The Vatican rolls out NFTs

The Vatican City has entered into a partnership with Sensorium, an augmented reality company, and Humanity 2.0 to create a virtual exhibition that will exclusively feature NFTs. NFTs are digital assets created using blockchain technology, and they offer uniqueness. NFTs have become popular in art because only one piece of the item can exist on blockchain because it cannot be duplicated.

Humanity 2.0, a non-governmental organization dealing in the identification and removal of any hindrances to the prosperity of the human race through technology and human ingenuity, is headed by Father Phillip Larrey. Larrey has published several books focusing on artificial intelligence, and he has also been preparing the Vatican to adopt Web3.

In a press release, Father Larrey said that the objective of this exhibition was to ensure that art is readily available across the world. By accessing modern technological solutions, it would be easy for people to access innovative technological solutions.

“We look forward to working with Sensorium to explore ways to democratize art, making it more available to people around the world, regardless of their socioeconomic and geographic limitations. The priest said that partnering with Sensorium takes this goal one step further and equips us with the latest technology solutions,” the priest said.

Vatican Museums will feature in the metaverse

Vatican City is one of the most visited places globally. The city sees over 6 million people annually, and the Vatican Museums are some of the most visited places within the city. The Vatican Museums boast over 800 pieces of art pieces created by 250 artists.

Some of the iconic collections in these museums include the work of Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Marc Chagall and Vincent Van Gogh. Other iconic pieces in these museums include the Sistine Chapel and the Basilica of San Pedro.

The virtual exhibition will be a piece of the Sensorium Galaxy metaverse. This metaverse has already been rolled out in beta form, and its objective is to allow people to visit the different collections displayed in the museum. These collections can be accessed using computers, mobile phones, or immersive augmented reality devices.

Users can view live broadcasts and develop non-player characters (NPCs) to boost communication by accessing this metaverse. The virtual exhibition on the Vatican City will also adopt the use of NFTs.

IT is yet to be determined whether the NFTs made available for the Vatican City will be available for sale. Moreover, the official launch date for the exhibition has not been communicated.
