Square Enix Teams Up with Animoca Brands for the Global Marketing of Symbiogenesis

Square Enix, one of the largest game publishers behind titles such as Final Fantasy, is partnering with one of the largest players in Web3, Animoca Brands, to expand upon the Ethereum non-fungible token (NFT) game, Symbiogenesis.

In a recent announcement, Square Enix said it had secured a partnership deal with Animoca Brands. The deal will support the growth of the Symbiogenesis game and bring it to a larger global audience.

The partnership will revolve around the Japanese subsidiary of Animoca Brands, Animoca Brands Japan. The two will work jointly to market the game. The NFT game will also benefit from Animoca’s expansive reach in Web3, as its portfolio has more than 400 projects.

Square Enix Partners with Animoca Brands

Symbiogenesis is an NFT game launched by Animoca Brands in December. The game offers a narrative adventure experience involving 10,000 Ethereum NFT characters. It also features in-game NFTs minted on Polygon.

The game is available on PCs, and it involves a “floating continent” on a polluted earth. In this game, the remaining humans have to fight to survive as dragons in the game launch attacks.

The Symbiogenesis NFT game will feature on the upcoming NFT Launchpad by Animoca Brands Japan. This Launchpad was announced earlier this month, and it will launch during the summer on Ethereum and Polygon.

The producer of Symbiogenesis at Square Enix, Naoyuki Tamate, commented on the development saying the platform was excited about the initiative. Tamate also noted that Symbiogenesis was looking forward to working with Animoca and bringing the game to a larger audience in a more strategic manner.

The COO of Animoca Brands in Japan, Kensuke Amo, also opined that the partnership sought to bring the best entertainment to players. The deal will also expand the global reach of this Ethereum NFT game.

“Animoca Brands Japan is pleased to be working with SQUARE ENIX, an entertainment company that provides world-class content and IP that Japan can be proud of,” Amo said. “We are proud to support the global development of SYMBIOGENESIS as we continue our work to make Animoca Brands Japan the Web3 gateway between Japan and the rest of the world.”

Square Enix’s Blockchain Plans

Square Enix is among the traditional gaming companies that have embraced blockchain technology and NFTs to transform their gaming offerings. The publisher has previously worked with Animoca after bringing its Dungeon Siege franchise to The Sandbox metaverse which is owned by Animoca Brands.

Square Enix has also previously launched Final Fantasy VII NFTs linked to collectible action figures through the Efinity network on the Polygon network. It has also recently announced investments in HyperPlay and Elixir Games.
