Playtron Join Forces With Mysten Labs To Unveil SuiPlay0x1

Gaming startup Playtron is aiming to rival the supremacy of handhelds from established giants like Nintendo and Steam with the introduction of a low-cost, adaptable operating system. This system can work on various devices. The studio is collaborating with Mysten Labs to roll out a sui-labeled model.

On Wednesday, Mysten Labs and Playtron unveiled the SuiPlay0x1 during the Sui Basecamp convention in Paris—it’s a portable gaming gadget that operates on the Linux-centric Playtron OS.

The Device Supports Games Developed On Sui

Scheduled to be introduced next year, the handheld device will support games developed on sui. It will also be capable of running blockchain-powered games on other networks and PC games from Epic Games Store, Steam, and other platforms, providing it has sufficient power.

Playtron and Mysten are ensuring complete, seamless incorporation for the sui network. Sui assets held by users will be connected to their Playtron account, allowing access from any suitable device. The devices will utilize Sui’s zkLogin system for Web2-style sign-ins. It will also enable users to pay for conventional games via the Sui wallet through Playtron’s unique storefront.

Playtron recently announced $10 million in a funding round. The funding attracted top companies like Samsung Next and Mysten Labs alongside other cryptocurrency firms such as Circle Ventures and Polychain. Kirt McMaster, the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Playtron was previously the Chief Executive Officer at Cyanogen, a mobile OS startup. While chairman and co-founder John Lagerling contributed to the growth of Android at Google.

McMaster expressed strong criticism of Steam, the leading PC gaming marketplace which he describes as a “monopoly.” Steam does not support blockchain-powered games, so studios using the technology have had to develop non-crypto editions or implement workarounds to reach the main storefront. The well-known Steam Deck console takes the lead in portable PC gaming gadgets.

McMaster Wants To Create An OS Allowing People To Play All Games

McMaster stated that crypto games are considered “second-tier citizens” with this system, which is why a majority of them chose to launch independently or through blockchain-oriented launchers. He added that the Epic Games Store has always been supportive of such games, though Steam has a significantly bigger audience. The Playtron launcher will support these games and many more.

He further stated that the team wants to create an operating system that allows people to play all games. Sui integration will be inherent and incorporated into the operating system.

Adeniyi Abiodun, the Chief Product Officer and co-founder of Mysten Labs, and McMaster explained that devices operating the OS are also compatible with crypto games developed on other networks. Mysten expects that the native integration encourages more developers to create on sui.
