Museum in Newberry wants to bring art to the digital age by adopting NFTs

A museum located in Newberry is planning to digitize art by integrating non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The NFT Museum, which launched in 2021, has been created to have a digital space where creators can showcase their work and educate the community about the process.

NFTs are digital assets representing physical things such as art and music in the digital world. In recent years, NFTs have become increasingly popular, especially in the art sector, because they promote an easier way for creators to display their work to a global audience.

The NFT Museum has become the latest entrant in the NFT sector. The company launched last year. The objective was to create a digital space for NFT creators to display their work. The museum’s owner, Robert Matheson, has explained how people can interact with NFTs using digital wallets and purchasing them in NFT marketplaces.

NFTs are a main part of the broader Web3 and crypto sectors. These digital collectibles are created on the blockchain and are purchased on virtual marketplaces using cryptocurrencies. NFTs have become popular in the art sector because they maintain uniqueness, as only one version of the NFT can exist on the blockchain.

Matheson also notes this advantage of NFTs, saying, “Nobody wants to have a copy of the original artist’s work, right? They want the real thing and that’s what the blockchain allows for.” He also added that NFTs prove the ownership of a digital collectible.

Artists line up to publish their pieces at the New Museum

The NFT Museum allows people to come and view digital works in their physical and virtual forms. Artists are already lining up to partner with Matheson in the new NFT museum. One of these artists is Neville Glover, who has worked as a restaurant owner in Newberry for years and only recently started creating digital collectibles after meeting Matheson.

Glover said people are usually surprised when they see his NFT and artwork, adding that he enjoyed his work. He has already made around $1,000.

Another artist venturing into the digital art space is Jerry Lane. Lane is hoping that interacting with the museum will inspire the participation of more artists and community members.

A former student of Newberry, Gage Fowler, who was recently visiting the area, said that the museum presented an opportunity for the city to access cutting-edge technology. Fowler also opined that NFT differed from traditional art that was displayed on pieces such as canvas, painting, or other similar things. Therefore, this was a way of taking art into the future.

The New Museum is situated at Harrington Street in Newberry. The museum allows visitation at limited hours, and visitors can also book by appointment. The museum also has a digital workstation to aid those interested in creating art and learning more about the crypto sector.
