Magic Johnson To Launch NFT Collection on NBA Top Shop

Basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson has become the latest athlete to join the digital art market by launching “The anthology: Magic Johnson” NFT collection on NBA Top Shot.

While commenting on the development, Johnson stated that he is excited to join @nbatopshot to launch and bring some of his favorite moments to the fans.

1,600 NFTs Will Be Debut On June 7

The collection is scheduled to debut on June 7 and will comprise 1,600 NFT packs, with a price of $399 per pack. The collections will include rare moments of the basketball legend’s career.

According to NBA Top Shots, 1,200 of the packs will be airdropped to people with over 150,000 Top Shot scores, while the remaining 400 packs will be available freely without any criteria.

“Fans get to see just a few of my favorite plays from my career!” Johnson stated. NBA Top Shot utilizes the Flow Blockchain, which was designed by Dapper Labs in 2019. It is a proof-of-stake blockchain designed for crypto games and NFT collectibles.

Johnson has had an illustrious career in NBA. He is a five-time NBA champion, 12-time NBA All-Star, and three-time MVP of the MBA finals. He is also a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.

Johnson stated that he has complete trust in NBA Top Shot and understands completely how they operate.

The NBA Engages More Fans Through NFTs

The NBA is always looking for more ways to keep fans connected to their favorite teams and stars. The Hall of Fame guard sees NFT as a new way for fans to become more engaged and collect a piece of Johnson’s career. He says he can’t wait for his contemporaries from other generations to have similar agreements to join Top Shot.

NFTs are unique blockchain tokens that give the holder ownership over an asset. They have become increasingly popular with fans, and it represents a better way for celebrities and athletes to offer their fans collectibles.

In another development, eBay has also joined the non-fungible token train by announcing the launch of its NFT drop on Monday. This time, the NFT is launched for NHL legend Wayne Gretsky.
