Immutable launches Passport to bring interoperability to Web3 games

The Immutable Passport is solving the issues faced in the Web3 industry by promoting easy onboarding and supporting interoperability. Immutable Passport has been likened to a single-sign-on (SSO) system such as Google, where users can use a single account for seamless log-ins.

Immutable Passport brings efficiency to Web3

The President and co-founder of Immutable, Robbie Ferguson, said that Passport operated like a self-custodial wallet where users could sign into their accounts using an email and a one-time password. Ferguson noted that the project would be a game changer for players and lower the costs of user acquisitions.

The team at Immutable wants Passport to be used by users and game developers to promote interoperability within the gaming universe. The end users on this platform will acquire benefits through this seamless integration. The end goal of this project is to have a multi-game product

The chief financial officer at Immutable, Alex Connolly, noted that the platform had been committed to supporting the growth of the Web3 gaming industry. He noted that Immutable was founded after identifying gaps in the Web3 gaming space, and players need to be able to create better games.

Connolly noted that the main reason behind Immutable venturing into the blockchain gaming space is to allow people to own in-game items. He noted that during its early days, Immutable faced challenges and created technology to solve problems faced by these games. He added that problems had changed over time, and Immutable was always looking for ways to provide solutions.

Solving challenges facing Web3 gaming

The Web3 gaming industry has often been touted as the avenue to onboard the next billion users to crypto. However, apparent challenges are hindering the growth of this industry. One of the barriers to entry to some games. Some games require the players to purchase expensive NFTs to access all features, which is not ideal or affordable to all.

Another issue with Web3 gaming is how challenging it can be to start. The players that do not have any crypto knowledge might get stuck creating a crypto wallet, buying an NFT, or adding funds to the game. Most Web2 game developers and gamers have criticized this model, saying that it takes the fun out of gaming and instead solely focuses on monetary benefits.

Immutable is removing the barrier to Web3 games by giving the players access to the Immutable Passport that can be used to ensure that the developers are supported and that players are not stressed looking for ways to navigate through this industry.

While there has been criticism from the Web2 gaming community, NFTs and blockchain technology are slowly infiltrating video games. Sony has filed a patent to transfer gaming NFTs between games, hardware, and consoles. Square Enix, one of the largest game publishers globally, is also working on the Symbiogenesis NFT game, with digital collectibles for this game set to be released.
