Dr Disrespect is increasing exposure to blockchain games amid negative feedback on the sector. The gaming streaming individual is popular for having an outspoken personality and appearances on YouTube and Twitch. He is popular in battle royale games like Fortnite, PUBG: Battlegrounds and Apex Legends.

Dr Disrespect was banned from Twitch in 2020 for violating the platform’s terms of service. In August 2021, the streamer said he knew the reason behind the decision and would take legal action. Dr Disrespect and Twitch announced a resolution to this matter on March 2022. The streamer then said he would migrate from Twitch to YouTube.

His YouTube profile has attracted much interest, as he had four million subscribers as of the end of 2022. Dr Disrespect entered the blockchain gaming industry in December 2021 after the launch of Midnight Society, a triple-A gaming studio.

Midnight Society is mainly focused on multiplayer games that have integrated blockchain technology. The official description for this game says that the team behind it includes “ambitious industry veterans who see a future in which developers no longer create experiences in a vacuum and players share in a game’s success.”

Dr Disrespect faces criticism

The content creator has received criticism from fans and followers who have accused him of promoting multiple blockchain games on social media. The critics have alleged that the product was harmful to the environment and could trigger wealth inequality within the gaming community.

The backlash initially led to Dr Disrespect distancing himself from the industry. However, he has since reverted to promoting the technology saying that blockchain games were the future.

On Twitter, the content creator said that blockchain technology was beneficial from an entertainment point of view and a player’s point of view. He also added that the technology was creating a new player-vs-player experience where the concept of digital collectibles within an online game was exciting.

He further criticized the people that were opposing the integration of blockchain into gaming. He said that the people saying that the technology was a scam were “dead headline followers” adding that these were the same people who spent a lot of money on skins in each annual game release.

Blockchain technology has gained much interest in the gaming industry, with companies such as Square Enix and Ubisoft announcing interest in the sector. The technology has been praised for offering secure and transparent transactions and supporting the ownership of in-game items. However, there are concerns about the impact of these games on the environment, an increase in scams, among other things.
