Activision copying skin from Dr. DisRespect’s NFT game

Activision has been criticized yet again for supposedly copying a visual in the game Call of Duty: Warzone. It was initially a concept picture from 2 years ago on ArtStation when it became design creative work for Dr. Disrespect’s forthcoming NFT-based gunman, Deadrop.

People on Twitter immediately noticed the resemblances. Here on the left is the promotional material of one of the numerous “Variant” agents created by Deadrop. The fresh “Doomsayer” visual from Call of Duty’s Tracer Pack Malware Ultra Skin package is displayed on the right. Both are fully armed characters with hoods and a virtual visor that projects a photo of something like a blue skeleton.

The lead designer at Deadrop development firm Midnight Society, Robert Bowling, revealed his “Variant 402” the previous month while issuing the Deadrop Founders Pass admittance email messages. Those who helped create Deadrop garnered one of 10,000 NFTs representing their in-game personas. Most appear to possess a cyberpunk aesthetic, which aligns with the dystopian world of Deadrop.

Bowling suggested on Twitter that they brand this after him. That was apparently in reaction to learning about the remarkably similar Doomsayer visual in Call of Duty.

Not the first misstep

This newest incident occurred just a few weeks since Activision deleted the “Loyal Samoyed” visual right after a graphic designer reprimanded the Call of Duty publishing company of copyright infringement. Sail Lin submitted a comparative evaluation of the “Samoye Medical” character design with Call of Duty’s new outfit for character Kim Tae Young, indicating similarities. Afterward, Lin tweeted that Activision had approached her, and Activision shortly deleted the Loyal Samoyed visual from their game Call of Duty.

Activision stated that they have the highest regard for creative thinking and content production. They adored the Loyal Samoyed but made a mistake and had to remove these visuals from the video game. They eventually apologized for their error.

Last month, character designer Sail Lin took to Twitter to illustrate how her “Samoye Medical” picture resembled the “Loyal Samoyed” visual for controller Kim Tae Young in the game Call of Duty. The two have an adorable poofy white dog’s face in common,  and Sail Lin’s graph included identical details such as a neck scarf, winter coat, signal generator, thigh-strapped shipment bag, padded, and much more.

Consequently, Activision has removed all citations of the Loyal Samoyed visual, including pictures from the leading site, erasing tweets, and completely withdrawing the Loyal Samoyed visual from their game Call of Duty. There wasn’t any mention of financial restitution for the claimed error.
