Sky Mavis Launches New NFT-Enabled Mobile App For Users

Axie Infinity became very popular as an NFT-enabled game, as it gained millions of users. On Wednesday, the platform released its mobile version, Axie Infinity: Origins. The firm says it will allow players to enjoy the game without buying NFTs.

The Game Will Allow Players To Earn Funds Without Owning NFTs

Axie Infinity: Origins is a card-based game that allows players to gain non-NFT starter characters instead of buying NFTs to play the game’s desktop version. Gamers will have the opportunity to enjoy the NFT-based game, which has attracted several players in the industry.

The gaming community has increased interest in the ownership of furry NFT creatures. It has given rise to an in-game economy that has attracted millions of players all over the globe. Gamers from developing countries generally rent NFTs from other players from Western countries. They rent these NFTs to play and earn crypto while the original owners take a share of the profits. This means that the players can earn money from participating in the in-game activities without owning any of the NFTs.

At the peak of the game, some players earn as much as they would earn when working a minimum-wage job.

Sky Mavis Is Adjusting Its Goals In The Challenging Crypto Market

Axie Infinity’s popularity has plunged in the past year, following the poor performance of crypto assets in the period. Smooth Love Potion (SLP), the platform’s in-game cryptocurrency, has plummeted by as much as 99% since its all-time high in May 2021.

The bear run in the cryptocurrency market has caused several companies to rethink their market strategy and operational goals. Sky Mavis, the company behind the Web3 game, is now adjusting its operational goals. The firm is strongly considering moving from the conventional “play-to-earn” to the softer “play-and-earn” model, according to its co-founder Aleksander Leonard Larsen. “We need more tokens, we need more crazy stuff in terms of experiments,” Larsen added.

However, the company is launching the new mobile app as an experiment to expand its player base. This will also serve as a text medium for Apple, which has been less accommodating to NFTs in the past. However, the tech giant recently approved Mythical Games’ blockchain NFT game, NFT Rivals. Axie Infinity: Origin says it will be launching soon on Apple’s App Store and its game will be available in Asia and Latin America.

Larsen noted that since the game is built with an Ethereum-based Ronin sidechain, it will allow those who already own NFTs to use theirs.

Following reports of the new NFT, Axie Infinity’s native crypto AXS surged by as much as 15%. SLP, the game’s in-game cryptocurrency, also surged 3%.
