Veve Partners With Marvel To Release Exclusive NFT Variant Covers

Digital platform Veve has partnered with Marvel to release digital variant non-fungible token (NFT) covers from three Marvel comic book artists. Based on the announcement, the NFT drops, known as the Marvel Artworks collection, will feature old and current comics.

The latest Marvel NFT auction started on August 29 and will run through Friday, September 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. (PT).

This collection will also be a limited edition of 1-of-1 releases featuring three Marvel comic covers consisting of the Black Panther and Spider Man, and will be available via auction with an opening bid of $1,500.

Veve also said that the auction is silent and:

“All bid values are hidden from auction participants, and the highest bid wins once the auction timer expires.”

All bids are placed through Veve’s platform. The NFTs feature artwork from “Black Panther #25” by Brian Stelfreeze, famous for the reboot of the Black Panther series for Marvel Comics, “Miles Morales: Spider-Man #25” by Sara Pichelli, co-creator of the new Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and “Amazing Spider-Man #1” by Skottie Young.

Skottie Young, answering questions about what these auctions are, said that the works up for bid are not real physical artworks. He commented:

“There is NO PHYSICAL component to this drop. I have seen a few people mention getting the physical original art piece along with this, and that is NOT true. You will be bidding on a digital NFT.”

More reports showed that Young has already offloaded the original artwork for the cover through his store, for $7,000. The total amount of money that these artists will get from any of the NFT sales is, nonetheless, unknown.

Veve and Marvel had already partnered on NFT projects before the latest announcement. The two firms dropped Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #3 NFT on August 23. The Secret Wars-centric nonfungible tokens are distributed in a blind box format, entirely readable, and provide five cover rarities.

Veve is now leveraging Immutable X’s scaling solution, a firm that most recently worked with Gamestop’s NFT platform in February. In terms of nonfungible token sales in August, Immutable X is now the third-biggest blockchain, and Immutable X-based NFT sales spiked by 169% from the previous month.
