The Solana Phone Has 2,800 Pre-Orders

The NFT space is evolving daily with new use cases coming up to help its adoption. Even as the Solana mobile phone is gearing up to come into the market by the end of 2022, it seems like not many people are eager to grab one of these devices.

Based on data supplied by one on-chain analyst, NFTherder, just 2,851 people have pre-ordered the phone so far. While Solana has not announced the price for the phone yet, the device is not expected to exactly be cheap.

This phone’s estimated cost of about $1,000 has not worked in Solana’s favor either. Solana Mobile announced its flagship Android mobile phone sometime last month. Here is a closer look at what the Solana mobile phone is all about:

What Is The Solana Mobile Phone?

In June 2022, Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs, said that it is now getting ready to launch Saga, a flagship Android mobile phone for Web3. It is designed to offer unique features closely integrated with the Solana blockchain. Fundamentally, the phone will make it considerably easy to make Web3 transactions and manage digital assets, as highlighted by the company.

Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, said:

“Saga sets a new standard for the web3 experience on mobile.”

OSOM, a leading Android development firm, designed and manufactured the Solana mobile phone. It comes packed with features that include 12 GB RAM, 512 GB storage, a 6.67″ OLED display, and the latest flagship Snapdragon® 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform. Furthermore. The phone will have an in-built Secure Element to secure seed phrases, private keys, and secrets separately from the application layer.

Is A Web3 Mobile Phone Necessary?

That is a question that most people are asking, including NFTherder. They tweeted:

“Maybe I don’t get it but does a blockchain need its own phone?”

First, users had to pay $100 as an entirely refundable deposit to pre-order the Solana phone. The people who pre-order may also get a Saga Pass, a nonfungible token “accompanying the first wave of Saga devices”. Then, the phone itself might eventually cost around $1,000. All things are taken into consideration. For now, Solana’s phone’s fate is anybody’s guess.
