NFL Teams UP With Mythical Games For NFT-enabled Game

The National Football League has teamed up with Mythical Games to launch a blockchain game with non-fungible tokens (NFTs) called NFL Rivals. The fantasy football game will feature 32 teams, with users acting as an NFL team’s general manager. These 32 teams and all their league players will be featured as tradable NFTs. According to the announcement, the game is set to debut next year and will be based on team building and leveling-up with NFTs.

NFT Rivals To Be Launched In Arcade Style

Executive Producer of NFT Rivals at Mythical Games, Billy Shautz, stated that Rivals will launch in “arcade-style” with 3D models. Also, each user will be allocated a starter team at the first launch since the game is easy to play.

The game will be “play and own” as well as “play and earn.” This means it will allow players to earn NFTs and tokens by completing set objectives or winning matches.

Shantz added that some Ethereum-based tokens have been planned for the game, although Mythical is not yet ready to provide details of the token details.

The announcement also revealed that NFL Rivals will provide a non-live player vs. player (PVP) mode as well as a solo gameplan mode. The non-live PVP mode allows players to compete against the assembled teams of other players. In a match, gamers can select football plays for their teams as they try to win the match. In solo mode, the player will be placed against a real, existing NFL lineup.

The NFL Shows More Interests In NFTs

The NFL has been showing interest in Mythical Games for some time. In November last year, 32 Equity, the league’s investment arm, contributed to a $150 million Mythical Series C investment round.

NFL’s senior vice president of consumer products, Joe Ruggiero, stated that the association has been bullish on the transformation of the sports industry using blockchain technology. He noted that the plan is to drive future fan engagement. “We look at this as a real long-term opportunity,” he stated.

However, the game’s NFTs may also unlock some additional benefits than just players. The partners are getting closer to the launch, and more features will be added once the NFT game takes off.
