Sorare Adjusts Its Entry Method To Meet NFT Regulations In France

The Web3 fantasy sports game is working with the French National Gaming Authority to create a framework for France-based players who face a tighter regulatory regime.

Web3 fantasy sports firm Sorare has introduced an alternative entry method that will allow players in France to meet up to the country’s laws on non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The company is collaborating with French National Gaming Authority to set up a network for France-Based players that have issues with stiffer regulatory processes.

The Regulatory Entry Method Will Be Temporary

In a blog post, Sorare noted that stated that the solution is only on a temporary basis as they continue to look for a more permanent regulatory framework following the ongoing discussions on NFT laws. At the moment, its flagship category Sorare: Footballs now has temporary solutions for NFT holders on the platform. Sorare: NBA is expected in the fall while the Sorare: MLB will roll out next week.

The news is coming when the French government is planning to set stricter rules for the regulation of in-game assets. But the current framework doesn’t support games like Sorare, which is why the platform is looking for ways to maintain the rules in the meantime.

A Sorare spokesperson stated that the project is part of the plans to build an ultimate ecosystem that will unite tens of millions of sports fans, supporting its mission to bring the fans closer to the players, leagues, and teams they love. The spokesperson added that it will not have any impact on the structure of the company’s competition or core game, or its card.

The New Framework Will Restrict Certain Gameplay

Although the new entry will give France-based players the required entry to access Sorare, the framework will still have certain restrictions that can change gameplay.

France-based players can have access to the game by submitting proof of residence and a phone number. Once they have submitted these documents, they won’t be able to compete with the NFT versions of the digital cards.

However, they will have a plethora of options, including non-blockchain versions of cards with similar features as the NFT-based cards offered by Sorare. The goal is to provide different options for participants to enjoy the platform.

Sorare has always had regulatory issues from the French government. The French authorities have always pressured the platform to change its rules because of the gambling regulations in the country. Last November, the French Gaming Authority ruled that regulators must provide a strong analysis for their web3 gaming. As a result, Sorare was forced to provide improved free access to its game to meet the regulatory provisions of the French watchdog.
