GameFi Execs Are Convinced Casual Gamers Represent Critical Audience

Three blockchain gaming company co-founders all agree upon one thing: The critical importance of the casual gaming market for both gaming NFTs and blockchain gaming in general.

Kieran Warwick: Illuvium Co-Founder

Kieran Warwick stands as the co-founder of Illuvium, a blockchain-based role-playing game (RPG). He explained that casual gamers, that is, people who play games regularly, but forego the practice of investing significant portions of time and effort in the sphere, are a critical facet of the space. His reasoning is simple: Their importance comes by virtue of their sheer numbers.

Exploding Topics made a report about the matter, revealing that they recorded a total of 3 billion people that fall under the gamer demographic. Of those 3 billion, however, 1.95 billion are considered casual gamers.

Warwick highlighted a specific demographic in the gaming space, as well. He stressed the importance of gamers that typically come from third-world countries and are interested in earning in-game yields. According to Warwick, the importance of this demographic is only growing.

Even so, Warwick highlighted a common problem when it comes to the mainstream gaming circles’ views on NFT gaming. Simply put, NFT games are typically seen as lesser quality compared to the mainstream gaming, which Warwick explained increases the challenge of bringing in these casual gamers.

Not all hope is lost, however. Warwick highlighted that mainstream game developers have already begun pushing their own renditions of NFTs within their respective titles. It should be noted, however, that most, if not all, of these moves, come with a significant backlash.

Yat Sio: Chairman Of Animoca Brands

Yat Siu stands as the chairman and co-founder of Animoca Brands, and shares a view, not unlike Warwick’s. He also declared the casual gaming sphere to be a critical part of the future growth of the Web3 gaming space. Siu claims that the gaming industry as a whole stopped growing between 2010 and 2011. Siu claims that it was the introduction of mobile games that ultimately led to the entire space being renewed. This feat, Siu explains, is what the blockchain gaming space needs to mimic if they want to succeed.

Bozena Rezab, CEO of GAMEE

Another prominent figure that holds similar views is one Bozena Rezab. Rezab stands as the CEO and co-founder of the blockchain mobile gaming platform, GAMEE. Like the two mentioned before, Rezab emphasized the importance of the casual gaming sphere.

Rezab explained that casual gaming is one of the easiest ways to attract an audience within the gaming sphere, particularly casual mobile games. Even so, he was quick to highlight a few changes he believes must be made in order to attract this audience.

Rezab explained that the gaming sessions need to be designed for shorter time frames, the various paywalls plaguing the NFT gaming space must be removed, and the entire setup to play must b easier to do for the casual gamer.

Rezab emphasized that all of this NFT gaming is new ground, and as such, the industry is still exploring to find the proper standard practices needed to attract an audience. The strategies that will define blockchain gaming’s future have yet to be developed, according to Rezab.
